WHO ARE WE?

Apiculture New Zealand represents all sectors of the apiculture industry: hobbyists, commercial beekeepers, the market sector, affiliated clubs and the supply industry.

WHAT WE ACHIEVED FOR MEMBERS IN 2019

  • Launched a quarterly NZ Honey Market Update
  • Secured significant Government funding to tell the NZ Honey Story on the world stage
  • Introduced lab testing discounts to all ApiNZ members
  • Advocated successfully for a reduction in audit service increases for our members.
  • Represented and promoted the New Zealand industry and ApiNZ members at premier trade conferences in China.
  • Advocated on behalf of beekeepers during council bylaw reviews (Auckland City Council, Hauraki District Council)
  • Lifted access to education and skills training with 74 apprentices in our Apprenticeship programme
  • Ensured needs of beekeepers represented at the highest levels through Sustainable Food and Fibres Future Fund, Primary Sector Climate Change Commitment and through submissions on the Food Safety Authority review and proposed changes to work visas.
  • Prioritised bee health in all submissions made to EPA and MPI on applications for new pesticides, surfactants and other potentially hazardous materials (nine submissions made during the year).
  • Promoted bee health and beekeepers’ social licence to operate through Bee Aware Month (high profile coverage by TVNZ and RNZ, and extensive social media engagement).
  • Introduced a biosecurity checklist tool for members
