In February 2024, Apiculture New Zealand released an ambitious sector strategy aimed at revitalising New Zealand’s honey sector.

The strategy recommendations are aligned to supporting the goal of doubling New Zealand’s honey export value by 2030. It identifies stronger industry leadership, implementing an industry reinvestment model, making sure regulatory needs are met to enable future growth, and creating a unique and differentiating New Zealand honey story as critical for success.

Honey Strategy Step One: A new industry organisation

The NZ Honey Strategy recommends a strengthened industry voice to more effectively address the issues that affect our sector.

As part of this process, Apiculture New Zealand and the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association (UMFHA) have shared plans with their members on a proposal to form a new industry body are keen to also get feedback from the wider industry.
